Insurance Claims

Penmellyn Vets Insurance Claims Policy 

Insurance claims 

Our default position is that we require clients to pay the balance of an account at time of treatment or on discharge of a pet from the hospital. We are happy to help you claim a reimbursement from your insurance company (you may need to provide a completed insurance claim form or email link, whichever your insurance company uses for claim submissions). 

Direct insurance claims for values over £400 

Direct claims are facilitated at our discretion. If you would like your insurance company to pay Penmellyn Vets all or part of a bill we require the following:  

1. Before treatment, prior to your pet’s admit appointment:  

  • A copy of your pet’s insurance policy (please email to insurance@penmellyn.co.uk). We will not facilitate a direct insurance claim if an insurance policy is not provided before treatment.  
  • A completed insurance claim form or an email link (whichever your insurance company uses for claim submissions) 
  • A completed 'INSURANCE CLAIM DETAIL FORM' (see below)  
  • A £250 advance payment. This advance sum pays for your fixed insurance excess fee, £45 Penmellyn insurance administration fee (this will be reimbursed to LifeCare+ Members) and any subsequent deductions your insurance company may take from our claim payment. Once Penmellyn has received payment from your insurance company we will contact you for any outstanding payments or, if your account is in credit, refund all or part of the advance payment back to you. 

2. After treatment, before picking up your pet:  

  • Payment of any insurance policy percentage excess  

Subsequent direct insurance claims for ongoing medications 

  • We will process direct insurance claims for ongoing medications where the value of the medication(s) you request is greater than £100.  
  • We typically dispense a maximum of two months of medication per dispense.

If you want to provide any documentation to us, need advice on claiming on your insurance policy or would like Penmellyn to submit a pre-authorisation check to your insurance company on your behalf (to predetermine whether your insurance company will cover an insurance claim) please contact insurance@penmellyn.co.uk.
